Full Job Description

Job Purpose:
To maximise the weekly, monthly and annual performance of the sites by providing leadership, focusing on customer requirements, effective operational performance, a motivated workforce and “making DHL a great place to work”. Taking responsibility for overall smooth operations in accordance with KPI’s & customer expectations. Identification of sustainable Fleet solutions and service partners and implementation of the Africa cluster’s sustainability tasks related to the fleet, Sub-Contractors and carriers. Develop management control systems to aid in financial planning and cost analysis of the Sub-Contractor and Fleet expenditure, in addition design and implement control systems to coordinate activities and ensure quality and effective cost control of the Transhipment agents. Design, improve and implement systems for the SLA’s and commercial agreements, as well as determining the most efficient partners for DHL in these sectors. Provide & analyse data, project manage, provide cost modelling and process support to the Solutions team, Business Development and Company business units.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Regularly scans external & competitive environment for market developments which could impact on our business strategy
  • Develop a clear, meaningful compelling future state commercial model aligned to the DHL sustainability targets.
  • Develop a standard costing delivery model with due consideration for renewable energy solutions
  • Manage excellent continuous customer relationship
  • Manage and achieve budget revenue and profit
  • Drive Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to meet contractual terms and DHL expectations
  • Initiate a strategic plan for the development of customer accounts
  • Responsibility for all issues relating to Health & Safety and the Environment
  • Identify and develop the potential of all team members
  • Responsibility for security and risk management
  • To maintain a positive working environment
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement
  • Drive the implementation of a comprehensive transport information system and fleet management
  • Determine & analyse all transport sub -contractor cost drivers to enable the daily management and effective agreed KPI’s
  • Drive the implementation of the Green Certified Carrier program with existing carriers
  • Provide support to the depot transport teams to drive cost containment and/or cost reductions, delivery flexibility through development of comprehensive transport performance metrics
  • Be actively involved in and support change initiatives, be a change agent to drive implementation of the business strategy within the transport department
  • Translate defined strategies into specific goals, objectives and responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance to all policies and Standard Operating Procedures through in field audits as needed
  • To undertake logistics benchmarking & competitor analysis to build a best in class logistics delivery model
  • Practice effective risk management when evaluating alternatives to ensure that risk mitigation strategies are adopted to contain any potential risks
  • Develop control systems that help in analysis of costs and planning of finances
  • Establish programs of work measurement in order to guarantee fulfilment of targets and deadlines
  • Monitor carrier / supplier performance
  • Prepare & conduct carrier / supplier performance reviews and issue escalation with carriers / supplier
  • SLA development, carrier / supplier contracting and onboarding support
  • Define approach and transport flows for RFQs, identifies carrier / supplier prices required aligned with renewable energy
  • Develops the optimal RFQ pricing response to customers based on own fleet costs and/or carrier / supplier prices
  • Internal: Provide support and solutions to Business Units
  • Internal: Define & develop quantitative and qualitative logistics requirements for DHL clients and Business Units
  • Internal: Design problem specific solutions with optimal profit at the expected quality aligned to DHL sustainability targets
  • Internal: Compile models to represent current and future scenarios aligned to renewable energy targets

Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:
  • Matric
  • Professional University degree in Logistics / Finance
  • min 10 years experience in logistics
  • Customer Management at a senior level
  • Experience in succession planning & development of reporting employees
  • Knowledge of customer requirements and needs
  • Supplier Engagement and negotiations
  • Change Management
  • MS Office proficient
  • Management of people processes and systems
  • Finance/Profit & Loss Management
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Seasoned Professional in Fleet Management
  • Experience in People Management
  • Incumbent requires a good understanding of supply chain needs and fleet requirements within ZA
