Duties:

The Head Custodial Support will work as part of the Building Maintenance team in day-to-day operations, maintenance and cleanliness of buildings, equipment, supplies and documentation. This position will maintain the highest level of function for all City of Lloydminster-owned facilities and work in conjunction with the Building Maintenance Team and other facility Managers/Supervisors to ensure adequate resources for daily operations, completion of projects, and to assist in special events. The Head Custodial Support will ensure that all issues or concerns regarding daily operations, safety, vandalism, inspections and equipment are reported and documented.

Duties:

  • Custodial Functions
  • Leadership
    • Provide direction, support, guidance, feedback, motivation, and mentorship to the Custodial team.
    • Coordinate with team to ensure completion of work in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Prioritize tasks properly and complete them in a timely manner.
    • Pro-actively work with the team to ensure that tools, equipment, supplies, and other resources are available when needed.
    • Other
      • Other related duties as required.
      • Perform minor repairs to furniture, equipment, and chattels with basic tools.
    • Provide support to custodial team with special events or specialized cleaning.
    • Daily and yearly maintenance of various floor types.
    • Maintain exterior and interior of buildings, including but not limited to sweeping, garbage removal, dusting, event set up, changing of dispensers, tightening bathroom chattels, and lightbulb changes.
    • Moving of furniture, equipment, supplies and other required items.
  • Administrative Functions
    • Assist in the development and assessment of safety procedures, cleaning processes, testing procedures and equipment maintenance documentation, schedules, and departmental planning.
    • Assist in development and implementation of furniture repair, tracking, and replacement program.
    • Provide clear communication to Supervisor, team, Managers, and other City employees in different formats such as reports, emails, or text message.
    • Documentation of equipment repairs, complaints and resolutions, building maintenance concerns, safety related concerns, and supply ordering and receiving.
    • Assist in the preparation and presentation of safety, staff, and departmental meetings.
    • Working with other departments to facilitate event setup and takedown for City events.
    • Assist with developing yearly department budgets, and project budgets.
  • Safety, Security, and Reporting
    • Document and report all concerns or issues to Supervisor or other required parties.
    • Assist others in documentation of safety forms, reporting, and other items.
    • Monitor and provide guidance to co-workers on compliance of WHIMIS, procedures, policies, and directives.
    • Complete and document safety inspections, facility inspections, and regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure quality control standards are consistently achieved through routine inspections and testing.
    • Monitor use of PPE and other resources and recommend replacements when needed.

Schedule:

This position works shifts consisting of days, nights, and evenings from Monday-Sunday. On-call shifts maybe required. This position is required to be in several different facilities and must be capable of working alone or with several team members.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum Grade 12 or GED equivalency is required.
  • Certified Custodial Technician basic and advance course required to be completed in the first two months of the position.
  • Trauma and Crime Scene Technician course must be completed within the first six months.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance or custodial related field. With a strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in a team and or unionized environment.
  • Must be capable of operating and maintaining small maintenance equipment and hand tools in an efficient, responsible manner in accordance with recognized procedures and equipment manuals.
  • Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other applicable computer programs.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to assess situations and make recommendations to resolve the problem.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to foster and maintain good public relations and customer service with internal and external customers.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills is required.
  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security clearance within a designated time frame.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver’s Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
