The City of Abbotsford’s Finance & Procurement Services Department is looking for an experienced Accountant to join their dynamic team on a temporary basis for a 21-month term. Reporting to the department manager, this is specialized accounting work in the maintenance, analyses, preparation and initiation of a variety of accounting records, financial statements and related statistical reports for the City.

In this challenging role, you will maintain accounting and statistical records, perform analyses and reconciliations of asset, liability and operating accounts, and assist in completion of financial statements and supporting schedules. Your strong communication and analytical skills are necessary as you prepare technical and business documents and reports alongside various internal departments. Considerable knowledge of accounting practices and procedures in regard to the preparation of financial statements and records is required. In addition, knowledge of computer systems and operations related to accounting systems and internal controls will guide your success in this position.

In order to be considered for this position you must have:
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Public Administration or a related field, or an equivalent amount of education, training and experience; and

Completion or near completion of the prerequisite level of CPA or equivalent of CPA prerequisite level modules taken from other recognized educational institutes; and

Minimum four years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in the public sector, including experience in the utilization and maintenance of computerized accounting systems.

This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $36.58 to $43.04.
